The National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) has opened a Blood Collection Centre at cfb. The Centre is manned by staff from NBTS and trained staff from cfb Medical Centre who assist with the operations.
The Centre is open from 09.00- 16.00 hours daily.
Anybody willing to donate blood for either a relative, emergency or voluntarily may contact the donor Services Manager, Ms. Dia Kumwenda, on +260 977 857692 or cfb Medical Centre on any of the numbers provided.
Once blood has been collected from volunteers, the blood packs are stored on site and the samples are sent to the NBTS at UTH for screening. The blood packs can only be issued out for use once the NBTS has confirmed them fit for transfusion.
Excess blood packs collected at cfb will be handed over to the NBTS at UTH for use before they expire.
